License

Jofti is dual licensed. You can license the source under the GPL (General Public License) providing your own software is GPL compliant. Alternatively, as the GPL is very restrictive you can purchase a Deployment or Third-Party License which frees you from the requirements of the GPL. Development with and evaluation of Jofti is free.

If you are using this software for a commercial project the Deployment or Third-Party licenses allows you to provide commercial software to your customers or distribute applications including Jofti.

This option is better for organizations that do not want to release the source code for their applications under the GPL and removes any doubt about the license implications for your software. In general if you are developing software for an Organisation, a Government, OEM or Consultancy you will be better served with a Commercial license.

GPL Interpretation

  • Jofti is free use for those who are really GPL. If your application is licensed under GPL or compatible license approved by Jofti, you are free to ship any GPL software with your application ('application' means any type of software application, system or utility).
  • Under this License, you must release the complete source code for the application that is using Jofti.
  • As long as you never redistribute Jofti in any way, you are free to use it. The term "redistribute" means your application is distributed to one or more third parties.
    • Giving or selling an application to customers, even in alpha or beta releases, is to redistribute.
    • Giving or selling contractors, affiliates, parent organizations or subsidiaries, business partners or support vendors a copy of the application is to redistribute the app.
  • You are allowed to modify Jofti's source code any way you like as long as the redistributed derivative work is licensed under the GPL.
